Toolbox Talk on Confined Space Safety

Toolbox Talk on Confined Space Safety

This post will tell us about the Confined Space Safety Toolbox Talk.

What is an enclosed space?

A confined space is a place mostly closed off, but not necessarily wholly, where dangerous substances or situations in the vicinity or nearby can cause serious injury. (e.g. lack of oxygen, poor entry or exit, sudden temperature change, etc.).

Hazards

  • Lack of oxygen • Toxic gases • Fire • Slipping and falling • Access and exits • Materials that move around

Asphyxiation falls, solids that move around, drowning, an increase in body temperature, and being smothered are all risks.

Some examples of tight spaces

Hoppers, tanks, water supply towers, sewers, pipes, access shafts, truck or train cars, maintenance holes, pump stations, manure pits, and storage bins.

Do not work if:

  • You don’t have a permit to work.
  • You’re not qualified.
  • There was no gas test.
  • There was no ventilation.
  • There was no EEBA.
  • The temperature was too high.
  • You couldn’t get in or out
  • there was no entry or exit
  • And there was no supervision.

Always Work (If):

• PTW approved • Competent in work • Personal gas monitor present • Gas test is done • Ventilation was given • EEBA available • Temperature is appropriate • Access and exits are present, and supervision is available.

I hope the Confined Space Safety Toolbox Talk made sense to you.
